Kabukiza Gallery Special Exhibition
Welcome to the Kabukiza Theatre.

The special exhibition, “Welcome to the Kabukiza Theatre” will be held at the Kabukiza Gallery located on the 5th floor of the Kabukiza Tower.
With “Welcome to the Kabukiza Theatre”, you can learn more about kabuki through 3 special exhibitions; “1. Deepening Your Understanding of Kabuki”, “2. Kabuki Experiencing Area” and “3. Special Film Presentation “The Making of Umeōmaru” – Theatre Screening”.
After finding out about kabuki through the panel display in the first exhibition, “1. Deepening Your Understanding of Kabuki”, you can touch and experience the props actually used in kabuki in the second exhibition, “2. Kabuki Experiencing Area”. The third exhibition, “Special Film Presentation “The Making of Umeōmaru””, focuses on ‘Umeōmaru’, a character from the Kabuki play ‘Kurumabiki’. It is a documentary-style film that closely follows the Kabuki actor as he prepares to take to the stage. Using Mixed Reality technology, explanations of the film and subtitles are accessible through the MR headsets.

In recent years, as travel restrictions eased following the reclassification of COVID-19 as a Class 5 infectious disease, Kabukiza has warmly received guests from within Japan and abroad, gradually returning to a semblance of normalcy. Seizing this opportunity, our aim is to deepen the appreciation of kabuki among both domestic and international visitors, allowing them to savor its unique charm, inspiring the creation of this exhibition. We've prepared exhibits suitable for those new to kabuki, covering aspects such as the history of Kabukiza Theatre and how to enjoy kabuki. When you visit Kabukiza, be sure to stop by the Kabukiza Gallery!
