The original Golden Tea Room, so named because it was covered in gold leaf, was built by the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the 16th century. The original structure was destroyed in a fire, but a faithful replica created based on historical records was exhibited for Chanoyu: Tea in the Cultural Life of Kyoto at the Kyoto National Museum.
The Japan Cultural Expo has taken a new approach by recreating this iconic tea room in a virtual format. Take a stroll around the Forest Village on our virtual platform, and you will find the tea room inside the newly-updated Cherry Blossom House. You can find the building by looking for its golden doors and sign.
The Tea Room is located in the center of this traditional Japanese-style house, offering views from the front, back, right, and left, as well as the interior. Switch your perspective to avatar mode (first-person view) to fully immerse yourself in the virtual space and enjoy the unique experience!
