SCOT Summer Season
The SCOT Summer Season is a theatre festival held annually from August to September at the Toga Art Park in Toyama Prefecture. It has been continuously held for nearly 50 years since world-renowned director Tadashi Suzuki relocated his base of operations to Toga Village. In addition to works by SCOT (Suzuki Company of Toga), the festival features works by prominent and up-and-coming Japanese directors in the performing arts. Every year, the festival captivates many visitors with iconic performances such as "Greetings from the Edge of the Earth I" (directed by Tadashi Suzuki), staged in the open-air theatre after sunset.
Toga Art Park is home to six theatre facilities, including the Toga Sanbo, a renovated traditional Gassho-style house, and various outdoor stages. During the SCOT Summer Season, performances are held at these venues. Multilingual brochures and translated scripts are available for international visitors.
Typically, it takes about an hour to reach Toga Art Park by transferring between trains and buses from JR Toyama Station. However, during the SCOT Summer Season, direct buses run from major shinkansen stations, including Toyama and Kanazawa Stations, to the park.
Additionally, at the Gurume-kan (food court) adjacent to the park, visitors can enjoy soba noodles made with local ingredients, along with light snacks and regional specialties. Although accommodations are limited in the area, a special tent site is set up where visitors can rent tents and immerse themselves in the world of theatre amidst Toga Village's rich natural surroundings for a truly unique experience.
Reservations open in late July each year. International visitors can make reservations by phone or email. For more details, please check the SCOT website.
