The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto
Nestled in the verdant Okazaki Park, The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto was founded in 1963 and has operated in its current building since 1986. Focusing on the art of western Japan, and particularly Kyoto, the museum has a collection that features ceramics, textiles, metal works, wood and bamboo crafts and jewelry, in addition to Japanese and Western paintings, prints, sculpture, and photography. Approximately five special exhibitions are held in the Exhibition Hall each year, while the Collection Gallery hosts displays from the museum collection according to the themes of the special exhibitions. With a collection of approximately 13,000 pieces and almost every exhibit rotated seasonally, the museum offers visitors a new experience each time they come.
