Relive history! A walking event where you can 'walk around the places remembered in connection with the 1350th anniversary of Emperor Temmu's accession to the throne.'
Asuka-Fujiwara' is the fourth cluster of archaeological sites in Nara Prefecture aiming to be registered as a World Heritage Site. 'Archaeological sites of Aska-Fujiwara palaces and associated sites' was included on the World Heritage Tentative List in 2007. The 'Asuka-Fujiwara' sites are assets which demonstrate that during the approximately 100 years from the end of the Kofun period (end of the 6th century) to the transfer of the capital to Heijo-kyo, a nation was created based on exchanges with China and the Korean peninsula, that adopted a centralized system of government. It is made up of historical sites such as palace ruins, Buddhist temple ruins, and tombs located in Kashihara City, Sakurai City, and Asuka Village.
The year 2023 marks the 1350th anniversary of the end of the 'The Jinshin War,' the largest war in ancient history, and the accession of Emperor Temmu to the throne at Asuka Kiyomihara Palace, with which the creation of a new nation was undertaken. Using this as an opportunity to learn about the formation of the ancient nation and to think about Japan as it continues to this day, a walking event will be held to visit sites associated with Emperor Temmu and Empress Jito, and candidate sites for inclusion in the 'Archaeological sites of Aska-Fujiwara palaces and associated sites,' which is being sought to be registered as a World Heritage site. By actually walking around the sites, visitors will be able to think back to ancient times and experience the appeal of historical and cultural resources. In addition, volunteer guides and others will provide explanations at each location and a stamp rally will be organized, making this event enjoyable for everyone and not only for those who usually take an interest and are familiar with history. The 10-kilometer route starts from Kintetsu Yamato-Yagi Station and takes visitors around the Fujiwara Palace site, Asuka Palace site, Emperor Temmu and Empress Jito's Mausoleum, The Nara Prefecture Complex of Man'yo Culture and other sites.
