Dogu with Heart-Shaped Faces: Shape and Beauty in the Jomon Period, and Taro Okamoto

The exhibition brings together many Jomon-period (ca. 10000 BC-ca. 300 BC) clay figurines (dogu) with heart-shaped faces and shows them from a multifaceted perspective—how they changed over the years, their beauty, what they may have meant to the people of Jomon, artist Okamoto Taro’s (1911-1996) fascination with Jomon, etc.
