10th Wayoh Japanese Calligraphy exhibition / 3rd Informal Handwriting contest
The main goal of our activities is to overcome the prejudice that only neat and accurately written characters are acceptable. The current calligraphy education has led to the standardization of the Japanese handwriting into the formal Kaisho style, which is based on the Chinese model. Today, the transition to digital writing and the increasing use of digital fonts has given modern Japanese the chance to free itself from the Kaisho style, allowing for the first time the creation of diverse handwriting styles. In other words, we move towards a future where the Japanese calligraphy style (wayoh), which was discontinued in the Meiji era, will be revived in the modern Japanese language.
