Funaki Kazuo Special Performances

In December, the Shinbashi Enbujō Theatre presents a 2-part program under the title "Funaki Kazuo Special Performances". In the first half of the program, the play Mibu Gishi Den written by Asada Jirō tells the story of the nomadic samurai Yoshimura Kanichirō who defected from the Morioka Domain (the old name for Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan) and joined the Shinsengumi, the special police force organized by the military government. This heart-warming period drama depicts the loyalty, friendship and familial love of a low-ranking samurai at the end of the Edo Period. The second half of the program is a theatre concert featuring the most memorable songs of the Japanese people.
