History Experience Program in Takaoka City

During this program visitors to Shokoji Temple will have the opportunity to experience the gorgeous atmosphere of the Jodan-no-Ma (Raised Audience Room), where envoys from Kyoto used to be received during the Edo period. According to historical documents, the temple was in fact connected by marriage to one of the sekke families (the top rank of court nobility) and often hosted emissaries from the imperial court. Mannequins wearing the costumes of the ancient court nobility and period furnishings will be displayed in the room, and a tea ceremony in the Yabunouchi-ryu style, held to be the same as the experience offered to noble guests, will also be held, allowing visitors to relive the splendor of the past.
