Japanese Modernization Heritage - Utilizing the Strength and Beauty of Nature -

Many of the infrastructures people in Japan use every day, such as water, electricity, and transportation, as well as the many cultural institutions and the industries that support their daily lives, are based on the facilities and systems created from western models during Japan’s modern era, which spans from the end of the Tokugawa shogunate through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras. For this initiative, valuable buildings and sites registered as Modernization Heritage will be open to the public throughout the country, allowing visitors to rediscover the passion and knowledge that laid the foundation for today's Japan.
