Hina Dolls of the Iwasaki Family

The highlight of this exhibition is a set of hina dolls, complete with accessories, made by Heizo Oki V (1886-1941) of the Maruhei Oki Doll Company. Commissioned by the fourth president of Mitsubishi, Koyata Iwasaki (1879-1945), for his wife Takako, these lovely dolls have toddler-like features and round white faces. Koyata and his wife used to display them in the hall of Toriizaka Villa in Azabu (Tokyo) during the Doll Festival at end of winter, to the delight of family and guests. The exhibition will also feature paintings and artifacts that celebrate spring and the plum blossom season, including the Tea Leaf Jar with Design of Mt. Yoshino, an Important Cultural Property by famous Edo period potter Ninsei Nonomura, and other valuable pieces from Koyata's private collection.
