Special Exhibition Commemorating the 55th Anniversary of the Yamatane Museum of Art: Selected Masterpieces of Ukiyo-e and Edo Painting from the Yamatane Collection― from Sharaku and Hokusai to Rimpa School

To commemorate the fifty-fifth anniversary of the Yamatane Museum of Art, we are delighted to present selected masterpieces of ukiyo-e prints and Edo-period paintings from the museum’s collection. The museum’s ukiyo-e print collection includes a large number of superb works by the six giants of ukiyo-e, Suzuki Harunobu, Torii Kiyonaga, Kitagawa Utamaro, Tōshūsai Sharaku, Katsushika Hokusai, and Utagawa Hiroshige I. This collection of signature works by these artists will be displayed in full, divided between the first and second halves of the exhibition period. The Edo-period painting collection is small in scale but consists of superb works that offer a comprehensive overview of the history of Edo-period painting. We hope you will enjoy experiencing the fascination of these ukiyo-e and Edo paintings from among our museum’s treasures.
