Special Exhibition SETTAI STYLE ― From Edo Chic to Tokyo Modern
Active during the Taisho and Showa eras in a range of fields including bookbinding, illustration, and stage design, Settai Komura (1887-1940) became a popular artist after his work on the book cover for Nihonbashi, by Izumi Kyoka. A "genius of design," Settai carries on the spirit of Edo while embodying the modernity of Tokyo. This exhibition retraces the path from Edo Chic to Tokyo Modern, starting from the works of Harunobu Suzuki and focusing on Settai's original drawings, prints, and bindings. Modern and contemporary crafts that combine Edo style and modernity will also be on display.
