The Destruction and Rebirth of Exported Old-Imari The Tragedy of Loosdorf Castle

The ancient Loosdorf Castle near Vienna used to house a collection of beautiful oriental porcelains, including Old-Imari from Japan and Jingdezhen from China. At the end of World War II, the castle was seized by Soviet troops and most of the collection was destroyed when they withdrew. The owners of the castle, the Piatti family, kept a large number of ceramic shards as a memorial of the war. This program will bring these pottery shards back to Japan and exhibit them in Tokyo, Aichi, and Yamaguchi for the first time.
