The Creation of Kôgei, Living National Treasures Exhibition

What characterizes Japanese Kogei(artistic crafts)is the distinctive senses of beauty that can be perceived from the pieses.Surrounded by abundant nature,people gradually developed the unique aesthetics regarding the hand-made items as they used them in the daily life. Japanese artisans express their own artistic quality by "conversing" with natural materials and making use of their characteristics and by thoroughly using their astonishing skills.This unique culture has existed and thrived over the centuries up the prresent day. Wako is pleased to host its 5th exhibition displaying the works of 39holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties(Living National Treasuures).We will present splendorous examples of ceramics,dyeing and weaving,urushi lacquer work,metalwork,woodwork,bamboowork,and traditional dolls. This exhibition will show magnificent works the extraordinaly effors of the artists produced and small pieses yhat will be a blissful addition to one's life.We hope you will take time to enjoy their exquisite,scrupulously crafted beauty.
