Comedy Masterpiece Theatre:Uchōten-sakka (Writer of Rapture)

Uchōten-sakka (Writer of Rapture): Koibumiya Ichiyo 2020, set in Tokyo’s Yoshiwara district during the late Meiji Period (1910), is a heart-warming comedy featuring Natsu (a ghost writer of geishas’ love letters), Kiku (a former geisha), Ryōgetsu (a popular writer) and his pupil. The script Koibumiya Ichiyo written by Saitō Masafumi from the Shinpa Theatre Company’s literary section is reborn as a wonderful comedy. This work, in which he describes in detail the lives of everyday people, incorporates the essence of former Shinpa masterpieces, and imparts both the human warmth of the Japanese people and their sense of beauty both at home and abroad.
