Shinpa Theatre Company Special Performance:Yatsuhakamura (Eight graves village)

The Shinpa Theatre Company, which in recent years has tackled several ambitious suspense dramas, has now turned the detective story ‘Yatsuhakamura’ by Yokomizo Seishi into a new theatrical play. A murder case involving the resentment and possession of fleeing soldiers in the mid-15th century is unraveled by the detective Kindaichi Kōsuke, and the incident’s background story is also described utilizing Shinpa’s unique approach. While this production inherits the world perspective of the Shochiku film ‘Yatsuhakamura’ (‘The Village of Eight Gravestones’) that was a social phenomenon in the 1970’s, Saitō Masafumi from the Shinpa Theatre Company’s literary section has worked on a new script and staging that brings us a world of aesthetic and bizarre beauty.
