Shinpa Theatre Company New Year Performances:Ashita no Kōfuku (The Happiness of Tomorrow)Kanda Matsuri (The Kanda Festival)

In their New Year performances, the Shinpa Theatre Company presents the masterpiece Ashita no Kōfuku (The Happiness of Tomorrow), a story about a three-generation family during the Shōwa Period, and a dance piece called Kanda Matsuri (The Kanda Festival), one of the three major festivals in Edo (the old name for Tokyo) during the Edo Period. The play Ashita no Kōfuku is a story with wide audience appeal. It portrays the conflicts due to differences in value as well as the reconciliations among three generations of family members over a clay horse sculpture traditionally worshipped by the Japanese people as a divine object. Kanda Matsuri (The Kanda Festival) is a spectacular Kiyomoto dance number featuring Edo Period firemen and geisha.
