The Satake Version of Portraits of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets: Elegant Arts of the Classical Japanese Court
In 1919, two precious thirteenth-century illustrated scrolls of the Portraits of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets (Satake version) were cut up, the pieces mounted, and sold separately. The individual parts were scattered and their whereabouts were often unknown even to specialists. This exhibition re-unites them in the most comprehensive assemblage held since a century ago.
