UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Special Exhibition The World of Traditional Performing Arts: Kabuki, Bunraku, Noh and Kyogen, Gagaku, Kumi-odori

The destiny of performing arts is to disappear as soon as they are created, leaving no form behind. However, their intrinsic beauty and the techniques that have been passed down through generations still have the power to fascinate the audience. At this interactive exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the Japan's five performing arts that are on UNESCO's Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage—Kabuki, Bunraku, Nogaku (Noh and Kyogen), Gagaku, and Kumiodori—all at once. Stages will be recreated for each of the five arts, and items that are actually used in performances, including costumes, musical instruments, and stage props, will be on display. Visitors will also be able to watch precious videos of performances at the National Theatre, as well as enjoy the talk sessions and demonstrations held on some of the stages. The whimsical space at the entrance of the exhibition, featuring a high-definition reproduction of the National Treasure folding screen Merrymaking under the Cherry Blossoms, is also a must-see. Unfortunately, this exhibition has been cancelled, but you can still enjoy it with our dedicated VR and video content: Special Exhibition:The World of Traditional Performing Arts Online
