The Tsuzuri Project: The Art of Hokusai, Reproduced from the Collection of the Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution

Thirteen masterpieces by Katsushika Hokusai on themes from nature in the collection of the Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, reproduced by high-resolution photography, will be shown at the Sumida Hokusai Museum in Tokyo along with some 130 related works from the Museum’s own collection, including the famous Under the Wave off Kanagawa, from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The reproductions were made possible by the “Tsuzuri Project,” a cooperation between the Kyoto Culture Association and Canon Inc. Commentaries on the works provided in English and other languages, lectures by curators from the Freer Gallery of Art, and hands-on workshops on folding screens (byobu) and various other aspects of Edo-period culture, to be held in a tatami room, should ensure an informative and enjoyable experience for visitors from around Japan as well as overseas.
