National Treasures of Toji Temple: Kukai and the Sculpture Mandala

Priest Kukai traveled to China to study the teachings of Esoteric Buddhism. In 823, after returning to Japan, he was put in charge of Toji Temple, which he made the headquarters of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. The priceless objects in this exhibition have been passed down, together with the teachings of Kukai, for nearly 1,200 years.
