Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum
The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum opened its doors in April 2005 under the concept of a "Breathing Museum." Like a living organism breathing, the museum absorbs various information and stimuli from outside and releases them back as new forms of inspiration, continuing to grow alongside the people and environment surrounding it. It is the museum's aim to be a dynamic and ever-evolving space.
The main collections include art related to Nagasaki and Spanish art. The Nagasaki-related art consists of works by artists born in Nagasaki from the Meiji period onwards and works themed on Nagasaki, and spans a wide range of genres including paintings, sculptures, contemporary art, photography, and design. The Spanish art collection is centered around the Suma Collection, formerly owned by a private collector, and is recognized as one of the few notable Spanish art collections outside of Spain.
