Matsue History Museum

Matsue History Museum

Matsue, the capital of Izumo Province, which was known as Unshu during the Edo period, is a castle town that still retains the original Matsue Castle tower and townscape from when it was first built.
At the museum, we introduce the structure and changes of castles and towns, as well as the secrets hidden in today's towns, through not only exhibits but also videos, models, calligraphy, cutouts, and other fun methods.
Furthermore, in addition to holding various historical events, we also have a Japanese garden that uses the castle tower as a backdrop, a traditional Rikyu tea room, and a chief retainer's tenement house.

Proof to confirm the completion date of the existing castle tower (National Treasure Matsue Castle Castle Prayer Card)

The town of Matsue developed as a castle town along with Matsue Castle. Matsue Castle was said to have been completed in 1611 after 5 years of major construction work. The two prayer cards discovered in May 2012 contained inscriptions such as ``Keicho 16 Year New Year's Auspicious Day,'' and an investigation revealed that they had been nailed to two pillars in the basement. I understand, it is certain that it was created before New Year's Day in Keicho 16, and it has been designated as a national treasure.
