This showroom by Kawasaki Heavy Industries showcases state-of-the-art industrial robots used in various industries not only in Japan but also worldwide. The theme centers on human-robot coexistence and collaboration, offering interactive experiences that captivate both children and adults.
Kaleido
Let's start with Kaleido, a humanoid robot. Its simple design reveals the intricate wiring and mechanics that allow it to move smoothly like a human. Standing around 180 cm tall and weighing about 85 kg, Kaleido is set to change the face of disaster relief and nursing care with its sheer strength and detailed movements.
K-Roboride
At the center of the room is the K-Roboride, an attraction that seamlessly combines industrial robots and virtual reality (VR) into an exciting ride. Before you start, there are seven VR sceneries you can choose from to experience jaw-dropping 360⁰ panoramic views. I chose the "Sheer Cliff in Chiba" for my ride, and the experience made me feel as if I was flying onto the horizon. As the ride began, I moved my head in all directions to check all the views, and I felt the dizzying height of the cliffside as I looked down, even though I knew it was not real. The VR scenery was so realistic that I had to remind myself I was safely harnessed. The sensation of soaring over the cliff and seeing the expansive landscape below was thrilling and immersive. It was an unforgettable experience that combined the excitement of a ride with the wonder of virtual reality.
duAro
One of the most impressive features is duAro, a dual-arm robot that creates portraits. Yes, you read that right! It can draw your portrait or even your entire family's portrait in a matter of minutes!
First, a camera takes your photo, and based on the image, duAro draws a picture-perfect portrait. When it was my turn, I was amazed at how accurately duAro captured my likeness. The robot's ability to identify color differences played a crucial role, and having glasses created more contrast and made it easier to frame the face and identify details, making the portrait even closer to the real thing. Watching the robot's precise movements as it sketched the details of my face was fascinating. The final portrait was not only realistic but also had a unique, artistic touch that made it a truly special keepsake. This experience with duAro was really enjoyable for me because I’ve never had my portrait drawn before. It feels so personal and it’s a perfect blend of technology and art, leaving me with a memorable and tangible piece of my visit.
