A Video of Murakami’s Interview Has Been Released

World-renowned contemporary artist Takashi Murakami is known for his instantly recognisable paintings, sculptures, fashion collaborations and films populated with motifs and characters of his own creation.
This unique event draws inspiration from Japan Cultural Expo 2.0’s theme - "The Beauty and Spirit of Japan" - and is a rare opportunity to discover the country’s rich arts, history and culture.

Born in Tokyo in 1962, Murakami earned a PhD in Nihonga from the Tokyo University of Fine Arts. Murakami’s practice seamlessly combines the past and future of Japanese art by blending modern anime and pop art with traditional Japanese art genres such as ukiyo-e, techniques and motifs.

Join the artist in conversation with Sam Thorne, Director General & CEO of Japan House London, for an in-depth and wide-ranging discussion about the appeal of Japanese art and how it informs his practice.
