Outside the Ishibutai Kofun tomb / Inside the Ishibutai Kofun tomb
Ishibutai Kofun is a massive seventh-century stone tomb and one of many important historical landmarks in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture. Scholars believe the monument is the burial place of Soga no Umako, the head of a powerful political family and an early promoter of Buddhism in Japan, born in the late sixth century.
A number of activities and experiences will be held at the site in spring, 2020, including a mock burial ceremony.
