Discover Japan's Naval History at Maizuru Red Brick Park
Maizuru Red Brick Park
Experience Japan's naval history in Maizuru, a city on the northern coast of Kyoto Prefecture and one of four headquarters of the Japanese Navy established during the Meiji era (1868–1912). The naval stations of Maizuru, Yokosuka, Kure, and Sasebo, called chinju-fu, were cradles of technological innovation and played an important role in the modernization of Japan.
Visit the Maizuru Red Brick Park, originally a torpedo storehouse built in 1903, to celebrate and experience Japan's naval history. Cook authentic naval recipes and dress up in historically accurate uniforms for a taste of naval life. See what cookbooks from the time would have looked like and listen to bugle renditions of Japan's national anthem.
