Our 8 Themes
Lifestyle Arts, Literary Arts, and Music
Community festivals, rituals, and related customs that are part of daily life are expressions of the traditional spirit of reverence for nature and gratitude for its bounty. Tea ceremony, flower arranging, calligraphy, and other practices of the culture and literary arts of daily life relating to dress, food, and dwellings are part of what we would today call “lifestyle culture.” Traditional Japanese music (hogaku) as well as contemporary music are also integral parts of lifestyle culture. Japan Cultural Expo showcases the marvels of all these diverse pursuits. It also presents performing arts productions and exhibitions featuring waka and haiku poetry that treat the subject of nature in Japan, with explanations and experience-style programs that are accessible to all, including visitors from overseas.
